Keywords and Metadata

Overview
IPTC (International Press Communications Council) is a consortium of the world's major news organizations. One of their main goals is providing standards to facilitate information interchange between organizations. As such, they have developed a very complete way to annotate an image with metadata. For example:

  • Description/Caption
  • Copyright
  • Author
  • Keywords
  • And much more

  • LicenseStream fully supports the IPTC Core specification, which means annotations you create in programs like Photoshop will automatically be read and extracted upon upload.

    Important Note:
Metadata you are adding within your LicenseStream account will not be embedded into your image. It will only be saved as a record in the LicenseStream database for display and search purposes.

    Frequently Asked Questions:

I am not using Photoshop, Bridge or Lightroom to caption and keyword. Will LicenseStream be able to read this info?
As long as the metadata is embedded in the image as XMP or IPTC the LicenseStream system will be able to read the data and import it with the image(s).

Do you embed the IPTC info into high-res downloads?
Your original file that was uploaded to LicenseStream is never altered in any way. You will always be able to retrieve the exact file you uploaded. However, metadata you added or updated within your LicenseStream account will not be embedded into your image.
