ImageSpan AND WEVA Unveil New LicenseStream WEVA Portal, Along with Several New Features, at Wedding & Event Video Expo
ImageSpan Gives WEVA members a Digital Video and Photo Gallery and Request Forum and Now Provides All LicenseStream Users with Research Light Boxes, a Keyword Generator and Ability to Link to Their Public Gallery
ORLANDO, FLA – August 11, 2008 — ImageSpan Inc., which provides an enabling infrastructure for automated content licensing and billing, and Wedding & Event Videographers Association International (WEVA), the world's largest trade association for professional videographers, today unveiled a unique, new e-commerce portal called the WEVA LicenseStream Gallery. Designed for WEVA members, the new portal enables the nearly 10,000 WEVA and WEVA Latino members worldwide to easily license their digital video and photos locally, nationally and globally using LicenseStream, a new and simple-to-use content licensing service on the Web.
In addition, ImageSpan introduced many new value-added features available to all LicenseStream users, based on feedback from WEVA members and other prominent videographers and photographers. These new features include research light boxes, a keyword generator and the ability for any user to link to their own public gallery.
The public-facing WEVA LicenseStream Gallery provides a one-stop search and browse portal for all WEVA videos and photos uploaded to LicenseStream. To use the gallery features, clients can now register on LicenseStream and use the new portal without intervention from a WEVA member. However, if a client does not find the digital content searched for in the WEVA Gallery, the client can request the required video or photos via a new Request Forum and obtain the needed digital content from WEVA members directly.
"We are excited to unveil the new WEVA LicenseStream Gallery, which brings our intuitive, easy-to-use approach to content licensing to WEVA's huge membership of professional videographers," said Iain Scholnick, chief executive officer, ImageSpan. "Built specifically for WEVA members, we believe this gallery will become a community destination for anyone looking to find and license video clips."
Customized for WEVA members, the LicenseStream service will provide all members with ability to store their content, create licensing terms, review usage history, manage their licenses and track usage. WEVA members also gain access to all LicenseStream Pro features, which builds on ImageSpan's standard LicenseStream service to offer additional licensing, reporting and publishing flexibility and options.
"This exciting new service from ImageSpan provides videographers with an easy way to market, license and sell their digital videos and photos on a global scale," said WEVA International Chairman Roy Chapman. As an exclusive WEVA membership bonus, he added, "WEVA members will receive their own free LicenseStream account plus access to a customized e-commerce portal, which makes it possible for them to transact with buyers automatically, 24-hours a day. With LicenseStream, videographers and photographers can literally make money while they sleep."
ImageSpan also is rolling out a range of new features to benefit all LicenseStream users. The new features include:
- Light Boxes: Videographers, photographers and other content providers now can create light boxes of content that can be shared with clients for review as part of a research or proof-sheet workflow.
- Keyword Generator: A pop-up keyword generator now helps content providers apply words or phrases that Web surfers are likely to use when trying to find a specific type of video or photo. It also refines the process of entering custom keywords.
- Gallery Naming: Users can now create a separate gallery name for their gallery URL, with a gallery title for the gallery page header.
- Gallery Links and License Model: LicenseStream now provides users with a way to link to their public gallery, and users can choose the license model to appear on landing pages.
A robust and comprehensive digital content licensing and billing platform, LicenseStream provides unlimited video and still photo licensing, including standard and customizable licenses. These features allow a videographer to choose predefined licenses or define extensive licensing terms before putting content online, including geographic parameters, timeframe, purpose and fees. LicenseStream can process all aspects of the license, including billing, collections and royalty payments.
Industry-leading advertisers and media companies already are taking advantage of ImageSpan's licensing technology through CurbStream, an ImageSpan online service that provides access to WEVA members worldwide and streamlines the contracting process. WEVA members shoot local footage and upload the raw content via CurbStream's easy-to-use interface. ImageSpan then manages all licensing and sharing of content, ensuring that it is immediately rights-cleared and licensable for use.
WEVA members' access to LicenseStream offers benefits that would otherwise cost individual members hundreds if not thousands of dollars. For example, photographers have long relied on stock photo licensing to earn additional income. The LicenseStream service makes stock footage licensing for WEVA members a quick and easy process.
Today's announcement was made at the WEVA 18th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo in Orlando, Florida.

ImageSpan Inc. Secures $11 Million Financing from Group Led by Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments
Series B Funding Will Solidify ImageSpan’s Leadership in Digital Content Licensing and Settlement Services
SAUSALITO, CA - June 17, 2008 - ImageSpan Inc., which provides enabling infrastructure for digital content licensing, today announced that it has closed a second round financing of $11 million from a group led by Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments (BDMI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Bertelsmann AG, a leading international media company.
Existing investors Greycroft Partners, headed by Alan Patricof, and Village Ventures also participated. Additional funds came from the New York City Investment Fund, City Light Capital Management and Ackerley Partners LLC.
The Series B financing comes as ImageSpan is launching new partnerships and rolling out its platform with major customers to extend its market leadership. ImageSpan currently provides extensive content licensing infrastructure for Omnicom’s Zimmerman Partners, Sports Illustrated, TAKKLE, Dealer.com and Visible World.
Built for the Web 2.0 world of mashups and projects with multiple copyright holders, ImageSpan has built the premier platform for licensing digital photographs, illustrations and video content.
"We have experienced tremendous growth recently and we now have the additional financial resources we need to meet rapidly growing customer demand,” said Iain Scholnick, chief executive officer, ImageSpan. “Our automated digital content licensing platform and services address a major barrier to profitability for all sides: today’s manual transaction processes for digital content licensing."
As advertising service providers address client demands to produce a greater volume of more highly targeted campaigns in today’s transmedia world, they deal with many internal and external sources of digital image, video and audio content for creating those campaigns. ImageSpan streamlines the licensing process for all this digital source material and then defines rights to the newly-created content, tracks usage, and ensures accurate royalty reporting and payments.
By dramatically reducing the time and cost of licensing and royalty settlements, ImageSpan speeds the pace of transactions, enables faster campaign creation and expands revenue opportunities.
“We see ImageSpan solving a very serious pain point affecting the entire media landscape today – that of licensing and monetizing digital image and video content at a time when both of these content categories are growing increasingly important on the web,” said Richard Sarnoff, President of BDMI.
"Since our investment in ImageSpan last year, we’ve been impressed by their ability to deliver exactly what media companies, advertising agencies, marketing firms and those providing commercial- and user-generated local content have been demanding – a game-changing licensing automation platform for the management and monetization of digital media," said Alan Patricof, founder and managing director, Greycroft Partners LLC.
